|Police week is May 11-17 |
This week (May 11-17), tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world will gather in our nation’s capital to commemorate Police Week. It provides a unique opportunity for those in law enforcement to meet each other, share their experiences, and honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty. The highlight of the week is the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service on May 15, which is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police®. During this service, law enforcement officers and their supporters remember and honor their brothers and sisters who lost their lives while defending others and upholding the law. This service also includes a Candlelight Vigil.
Other planned events during the week include a police unity tour (http://policeunitytour.com/); a survivors’ conference for families and co-workers; and daily activities, including receptions, entertainment and food vendors. National Police Week is expected to draw between 25,000 to 40,000 attendees. For more information on ways to participate, please view the National Police Week website at http://www.policeweek.org/.
