Cyber Investigations 105 – Basic Cell Phone Investigations (BCPI) This 2-day course is for officers, investigators, and analysts that encounter cell phone evidence, and includes the acquisition and analysis of information external to the phone. Class concepts include instruction on how to request, read, and analyze Call Detail Records obtained from cellular providers and plot cellular site locations to determine the position of a suspect during a given time frame. Also, this course provides guidance to first responders on proper procedures to seize and preserve evidence on a cell phone until that phone can be fully analyzed. The student is also shown techniques for tying all this information together for case reports and/or court room presentations. No special hardware or software is required, just a new knowledgebase to apply to cell phone cases. This course focuses heavily on analysis and, as such, a strong working knowledge of Microsoft® Office is highly recommended. This course also has a companion course, Cyber-Investigation 205 – Small Scale Digital Device Interrogation, which focuses on the obtainable data internal to the device itself.
