Clearly, one of the most urgent and pressing challenges facing the law enforcement community today is keeping up with the rapidly growing use of high-technology, particularly that of computers and, of course, the Internet. In our current phase of technological evolution, the need and importance of information technology for the law enforcement community is essential if we are going to remain competitive. In fact, in as little as two to three years, many law enforcement futurists believe that the Internet will be as crucial a tool as a patrolman's handgun or squad car. The Internet will be that critical in accomplishing our mission by virtue of more efficient and timely access to information on operations, research, and information sharing. It is indeed an extremely vital element of the criminal justice community.
In response to this growing need, the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) offers the following collection of Internet Resource Web sites. While no listing of potential resource web sites could be considered all-inclusive, this directory does serve to provide many useful links and search engines to assist in Internet research. The Internet no doubt will continue to blossom into the intellectual stomping ground of crime-prevention specialists, prosecutors, criminal investigators, and a host of specialists and services useful to law enforcement. Only by utilizing these resources and the sharing of information within the criminal justice community, will we have a fighting chance in our ongoing battle with criminal enterprise.
