Course description
This course introduces learners to the concept of digital footprints and best practices in protecting personally identifiable information (PII). Topics include limiting an individual's digital footprint, protecting privacy on social media, and the consequences of oversharing personal information; as well as steps to take after becoming a target of doxing.

Current landscape. Emerging technology and trends that can aid criminals in the commission of identity theft, credit card theft, child exploitation, and production of counterfeit documents.

Personally identifiable information (PII). Learn what PII is, why it can threaten individuals' safety, and the scams and exploits criminals use to obtain it.

Minimizing your digital footprint.  Learn how and why you should remove PII, and how to find where information may be located. Instructors demonstrate how to secure digital devices and request removal of data from a website.

Social media. Use security and privacy settings to control the amount of available information on multiple platforms.

Resources. Identify resources that can help victims of identity theft, doxing, and other related crimes.

Cancellation
All classes are subject to cancellation up to 45 days before the start of class if the minimum class registration threshold is not met.

  Lab Requirements

Live Online Training Computer Hardware Mandatory Requirements

Live online classes are a convenient way to take our traditional in-person, instructor-led training from your own computer. When attending these courses, you will receive the same presentations and hands-on practical exercises that you would in our in-person classes. As such, having proper computer hardware to complete the course is a must.

The hands-on practical exercises are intensive, critical to understanding the material being taught, and required to successfully complete the class. If your computer hardware does not meet the mandatory requirements listed below, your experience in taking the class will be less than ideal and may also impact other students while the instructors take time to troubleshoot hardware and software problems.

Mandatory Operating System Requirements
• Your computer must be running Microsoft Windows 10 or macOS v10.12 or later.
• Smartphones and tablets are prohibited.

Mandatory Hardware Requirements
Dual monitors. You will need one monitor to join the online classroom, view presentations, see the instructor’s shared screen, and interact with the instructor(s). The second monitor is needed to complete the hands-on practical exercises. Not being able to view the instructor’s shared-screen and performing the practical exercises on a second monitor simultaneously will make it difficult, if not impossible to successfully complete the exercises. Trying to use one large screen monitor, running the two different interfaces split screen, will NOT work.
• Multiple computers can also work as a substitute to having multiple monitors.
• A hard-wired, high-speed Internet connection is highly recommended. A wireless Internet connection may be sufficient; however, a wired connection will improve latency and buffering, and will also provide better connection speeds and stability overall.
Microphone and speakers. This is an interactive, live-training class and a microphone is required to interact with the instructor(s), ask questions, give answers, and provide insights to help enhance the overall class experience. We recommend a headset, headphones, or earbuds to eliminate feedback and echo when using your microphone.

Please have the following software installed prior to class:
• Download and install the Google Chrome web browser, if you do not already have it installed. It is the recommended web browser to launch our virtual lab environment.
• Download and install the Webex Chrome Extension, which is required to launch our live online training environment, Webex Training Center, and works hand-in-hand with the Webex Meetings application.
• Download and install the Webex Meetings , which is required to enter our live online training environment Webex Training Center

If you have any questions regarding the mandatory minimum hardware requirements, please contact liveonline@nw3c.org.
