This course was funded by the Bureau
of Justice Assistance
This course introduces prosecutors to the challenges they may face
in prosecuting cases involving the dark web. It is designed around a case study
that moves through the entire prosecutorial process, from charging decisions
through sentencing. Topics include how the dark web works, an introduction to
Tor and other popular darknets, and an overview of key terms related to
investigations in the dark web. The course provides a framework for the
prosecution of a case involving the dark web, including a specific timeline
showing what steps to take and when. Relevant, up-to-date case law is included
to assist in future prosecutorial efforts.
