CI099 Basic Computer Skills for Law Enforcement

This course was funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

This course covers the fundamental skills involved with operating a computer using the Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating systems. Topics include components of computer hardware, Windows File Explorer, file management in Windows, and program installation.

This course consists of six sequential instructional modules. After completing each module, students should proceed to the next.

The various hardware components associated with desktop computers, laptops, and tablets.

25 minIntroduction to Windows Operating System

Windows 7 and Windows 8.

25 minIntroduction to Windows Desktop

Navigating the Windows operating environment. Basic functions of a mouse.

25 minIntroduction to Windows Explorer

Locating, organizing, and saving files.

25 minIntroduction to File Management in Windows

Manipulating files in Microsoft Windows.

25 minIntroduction to Program Installation

Installing and uninstalling software programs in Microsoft Windows.

On completion, proceed to the post-test.

20 minPost-test

Students who score 80% or higher have passed the post-test and will be awarded a certificate of completion.
